Appoints New President Drs.
Rufi and Vicky Macagba receive a watercolor from incoming HDI President Ken Hekman
and his artist wife, Marybeth, at the April 4, 2007 HDI Board meeting.
Dr.
Rufi Macagba stepped down as HDI's Founding President after seventeen years of
dedicated leadership. Dr. Macagba will devote more time to the Lorma Hospital
and Foundation in the Philippines which was founded by his parents and is owned
by his family. The Board of Directors received Dr. Macagba's resignation at its
meeting on April 4, 2007, and appointed Ken Hekman to be his successor. Mr. Hekman
brings more than 30 years of experience as a U.S. health care manager and consultant
from his base in Holland, Michigan, and has extended his services to developing
countries on four continents since 1998. HDI is relocating from California to
Michigan and expanding its mission and vision to develop models of medical and
business excellence around the globe. Dr. Macagba will remain as a special advisor
to Mr. Hekman, and as the Asian Representative for HDI. top
China Invites HDI HDI
has been invited by the Charity Hospital Management Committee of the China Rural
Health Association to provide management training for rural hospital managers.
The invitation came at the conclusion of an exploratory trip to China by Ken Hekman
and Dr. Rufi Macagba in October, 2007. Plans are being made for a two-week training
program to be conducted in May, 2008. The course provides basic management principles,
but allows participants to discern how to apply them in their specific circumstance,
making the material relevant in any culture. top
Romania Work Expands HDI President
Ken Hekman has been selected as an advisor for a second project in Romania. Inspired
partly by the Dr. Luca Medical Center in Pitesti, Romania, a committee from the
Community Church of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is supporting the expansion of a church-based
clinic in Galati, Romania, with technical guidance and planning services from
HDI. The group is preparing a visit to jointly plan the expansion in April, 2008.
